How to quickly get rid of the beetle weevil

One of the most popular pests of grain crops - the granary weevil - was found in grain that was stored in ancient Egypt. To date, the weevils that have appeared in the housing can very quickly spoil all the stocks of cereals and flour. By the way, these insects can be found anywhere in the world.

How to get rid of weevils

Who are the weevils

The insect comes from the family of beetles, where there are more than 40 thousand different specimens. Together with a man, granary weevils live in apartments - beetles up to 5 millimeters long with a dark brown back with inferior wings. Although the weevil cannot fly, this does not prevent it from spreading quickly over a large area.

A female individual can lay up to 200 eggs at a time, each of which it allocates its own burrow in the kernels, and its entrance closes with specific secretions remaining after the laying of eggs. On day 12, the larvae hatching from the egg, which develops inside the grain and destroys it from the inside. Here also appears the pupa. Then the grown up bug damages the grain and gets out.

All this suggests that the process of "growing up" of an insect is hidden from the human eye - we see only an adult insect. This is one of the main difficulties encountered in the fight against weevils.

The beetle prefers to eat wheat, barley, rice, corn and buckwheat. It can also live in pasta and old flour. If you find a weevil in the croup, that is, it is impossible. It should immediately throw it and think about how to get rid of pests.

How to deal with weevils in the kitchen

Due to the fact that the beetle has very sharp and powerful teeth, it easily bites into bags with croup and penetrates inside. That is why it is impossible to delay its liquidation. Thanks to several methods, this is not as difficult as it seems.

How to deal with weevils in the kitchen

  1. If you have found at least one weevil, it is recommended to carefully check all available pasta and cereals. Also pay attention to coffee, tea and cocoa, located in the place where the beetle is found. Suspicious foods should be thrown away immediately, as the secretions from weevils are dangerous for their carcinogenic properties.
  2. Remember that insects love heat. When the air temperature drops to +5 degrees, they freeze, and at -5 all individuals and larvae die within a month. This suggests that cold is considered an effective method of fighting beetles. When you find a weevil in your kitchen, put the food for a few days in the freezer or on the balcony (in winter). You can do the same with pasta bought in a store or on the market.
  3. Warming up the croup also has a negative effect on insect reproduction. If the temperature lasts +40 to two days, then the beetles die, and at +50 this happens for 5-6 hours. Therefore, if you want to completely get rid of weevils, then heat the cereal in the oven at +60 degrees.
  4. Store food only in glass or plastic. Today you can buy special containers for cereals, which are both convenient and useful.
  5. You can apply the effect of garlic. Spread the peeled cloves in a container with cereals and leave for a long time. Beetles do not like this smell and quickly retreat from your apartment.
  6. Wipe the lockers where the food is stored with an ordinary soap solution. For these purposes, you can still use water diluted with vinegar.
  7. Take the bay leaves and lavender, place them on the shelves, and you will never encounter an invasion of weevils.
  8. Try not to accumulate a lot of cereals - buy them as needed. This will help to easily track the appearance of insects and get rid of them with the same simplicity.

What to do with weevils in the garden

In early spring, when it warms up to +12 degrees, insects come to the surface of the earth after hibernation and immediately begin to harm the buds and leaves of fertile plants. Weevils should get rid of immediately, as you noticed them.

What to do with weevils in the garden

Coward the bugs in a bucket, then treat the paper with a special glue that does not dry out, and wrap a tree trunk with it. Leave it for a while, wait for the insects to accumulate inside, then take the paper and burn it immediately. After that, it is recommended to lime the barrel.

Dig the ground around the trees, sprinkle the crown with garlic and onion broth. In order to cook the broth, it is necessary to take garlic, onions and pine needles, pour them with water and leave for 14 days for fermentation. Next, drain the solution and dilute it in a ratio of 1 liter to 10 liters of water. The spraying procedure should be carried out every week.

If you need to protect strawberries from weevils, then prepare the following solution: take 100 grams of mustard powder and dilute them with 3 liters of warm water. In addition, you can use another tool: dilute 3 kilograms of wood resin with 10 liters of water, add 40 grams of liquid soap there. Spraying should be carried out when the first buds appear on the strawberry.

If we talk about specialized drugs, then it is appropriate to apply the following substances: "Spark - bio", "Agravertin" and "Fitoverm".

When weevils appear in the garden, they immediately gnaw the roots of plants. First, collect the beetles by hand, then process the crop with "Deltamethrin", "Diazinon" and other means.

How to deal with weevil on indoor plants

Flowers on the windowsill also get sick. And very often the cause of these diseases are insects - parasites. Cyclamen, hydrangea and roses are most commonly affected. Water the plants “Inta-vyrom” or “Fufan”, then wipe the leaves on the flowers with the same means. Be sure to transplant them into another, clean soil, and keep away from other plants.

These tips will help you to permanently get rid of harmful insects and prevent their appearance. The main thing is to read the instructions carefully before using any biological preparations.
