Do not try to germinate a large number of grains at once - the shelf life of such a product is only 3 days in the refrigerator. It is better to prepare cereals as they are used.

Therefore, prepare a place in which there will be a temperature of about 23 degrees Celsius, there will be no drafts, and the sunlight will not be direct. The windowsill is the most suitable in the apartments, however you can arrange the dishes with seeds in any other suitable place.

There are several methods available for sprouting oats:

  1. Rinse a small amount of seeds, about a handful, under running water and transfer to a clean jar. Fill the grains with water at room temperature and hold them for 8 hours (it is not recommended to close the jar with a lid). After the expiration date, rinse the swollen seeds and place them on a saucer covered with a wet piece of cloth; cover the oats with the same wet shawl or gauze on top.In order for germinated oats to be eaten, another 12-14 hours must pass. After this time, white “tails” of no more than 2 mm appear on the grains - this suggests that the seeds have accumulated the greatest amount of useful substances and can be included in your diet.
  2. In order to speed up the germination of seeds, you can use the following method. Pour 3 tablespoons of washed oats into a small volume jar. Fill with room temperature water (0.5 liters), cover with gauze and secure it with a rubber band or use a cover with frequent and small holes. Let stand for 8 hours (for example, at night). In the morning, without opening the can, pour out the water, add a new one, gently shake the can, then pour it again. Turn the jar upside down and set on the device, such as drying plates or spoons. Perform this procedure daily for 3-4 times. Already in the evening, you will notice how sprouts begin to hatch. Put the seeds in a container and refrigerate. Remember that you can eat sprouted oats only for 3 days!

Before you buy oats in the store, make sure the seeds are clean and dense.Seeds that have lain for a year are best suited, but carefully examine the grasses for traces of decay - if you feel a sharp smell or mold is visible, it is better to refuse to buy and look for other oats.

If you missed the moment, and the seeds already have greenish sprouts larger than 2 mm - in any case, do not eat them! They become poisonous! Better throw out and prepare new germinated seeds.
