How to wash a cashmere coat

A bit of cashmere history

Cashmere is a very thin wool fabric, soft and gentle to the touch. The material for its creation is fluff combed from the undercoat of a special breed of goats. By the way, animals are called cashmere, they live in the northern regions of India, as well as in China, Afghanistan, Mongolia and Pakistan. The name of the breed of goats and tissue gave the Kashmir region. Her story is also quite interesting. Now this territory can not be divided between India and Pakistan, although initially belonged to the Himalayan principalities.

In general, natural cashmere is a material that is not only light and very warm, but also incredibly expensive. The fact is that the technology of its extraction is still manual. Goats are combed out or sometimes plucked out only in the spring, during the period of active molting. At the same time, the extracted fluff is incredibly thin, about 2-3 times thinner than human hair.

One piece of the type of cap will leave the material combed out from about 4-5 goats. The fabric is also made by hand. Sewing one coat takes a huge amount of not only cashmere itself, but also labor, therefore the price is appropriate. Another circumstance is important. They tried to breed cashmere goats in other areas as well, for example, in the same place where jersey wool, which is known to everyone, is produced, and the process itself was successful. Except for one but. The climate was so sharply different from the usual animals that even though they felt fine, the fluff became completely different. Therefore, true cashmere is produced only in India, Mongolia and Pakistan.

Today, most often by the term understand other fabrics made on the basis of cotton or silk threads. Wool fiber is added to their composition, but the properties and effect are not the same.Products from real, natural cashmere, not only look amazing and very comfortable to use, but also stand decently. That is why it is important to properly care for them.

Basics of Proper Cashmere Care

The basics of care consist of only 5 aspects: washing, drying, ironing, storage and sock. Briefly on each.

 Basics of Proper Cashmere Care

  1. Washing. Any item is worn, stained and, sooner or later, needs washing. Such a procedure with a cashmere coat should be carried out approximately every 8 outputs, so as not to lose the presentation. In more detail we will focus on this aspect below.
  2. Drying. They dry such delicate things only in a horizontal position, spread terry towels under them in order to remove all excess liquid. There is another rule: never wring! If you act so cruelly with a cashmere coat, all the fibers in it will tear, and the view will be lost forever. Spread the wet thing, laid it on towels, away from any artificial source of heat - that's all. Drying should be only natural.
  3. Ironing. Despite the increased delicacy of the fabric, some models of cashmere coats can be ironed. In order to do this correctly, use the minimum heating of the iron, as well as wet gauze, placed on top of the thing. Iron only from the inside! The use of steam mode is welcome, but again, at the minimum temperature. By the way, steam prevents the formation of pellets on the surface of the coat.
  4. Storage. It is clear that such capricious clothing should be properly stored. First, the coat should hang in a closet completely protected from the attack of the moth. Cashmere is easily destroyed by this insect. Secondly, hang on the hanger, after straightening each fold. Remember that such a coat can not be hampered by anything, otherwise it can form nothing eliminated by the hall. And finally, only clean and absolutely dry things should be sent for storage.
  5. Wear. Cashmere is not recommended to wear all the time, because of this, it is quickly enlarged. Once you looked like a coat, remove it, lay it on the table, horizontally, straightening every detail. Having stayed in this position for a day, the clothes will become as good as new. Any pellets need to be removed immediately, otherwise the wool will pile, and the defect will not work. And one more important rule: never use perfume directly on cashmere. Perfume should be applied to the body literally 15 minutes before you put on the thing.

Well, now, as promised, we will tell you in detail about the features of washing a cashmere coat.
