Ferrets have a special “passion” for poultry, be it geese, chickens or ducks. It is important to know the main habits of these animals, their weak points, to prevent unpleasant consequences after they visit your home.
Basic rules for preparing a chicken coop
Ferrets are mostly solitary and attack human habitation in the dark. It is good enough to prepare and strengthen the chicken coop to prevent these little predators from reaching your bird.Be sure to take the following measures to protect the territory of the bird house from encroachment:
- during the construction of the chicken coop, it is desirable to put a concrete base;
- hang a reliable heavy lock - the primary remedy for uninvited guests;
- eliminate any cracks and crevices in the walls and floors of the room;
- replace old weak boards with strong new ones;
- cover the floor with tin plates to avoid digging;
- install a frequent metal mesh around the perimeter of the house, bury it half a meter into the ground;
- smear the walls with tar or spread goatskin in some places, the strong smell scares the ferrets;
- eliminate roof gaps, preventing the entry of any predators.
It is equally important to prepare the territory near the house in anticipation of the “enemy”. Around there should not be large clusters of branches, boards or any other trash, where the animal could hide. Faced with an attack for the first time, you must follow a couple of weeks for your bird. During the day, release into specially fenced pens, and in the dark, lock them in a more reliable shed. Facing constantly with insurmountable obstacles,ferrets usually give up and go to look for more affordable yards, where there is something to profit.
How to catch a ferret himself
If you have already met with a ferret, you must act with lightning speed, it is too smart and cunning. Quickly throw a big fur coat or an old coat taken by surprise on the beast, then wrap it up and move it in a cage.

How to trap a ferret

Wearing thick cloth gloves or mittens, we place traps near the excavated passages on both sides. With the help of bird feathers, you can veil the object and attract the ferret with a chicken smell; it will surely climb there in search of the victim.
Sometimes the bait is even a dead chicken carcass, which is placed in a bucket or hung, placing around the traps. Cautious at first the ferret, seizing the prey, loses vigilance. He begins to retreat quickly and in any case falls into one of the traps.
When setting up traps, you need to be especially careful if you have domestic cats and dogs walking around the yard. Make sure that they do not become unintentional prey.
Homemade ferret traps
