Certain measures will have to be taken to alleviate the anguish at home.

 How to get rid of a toothache

The reasons for which the teeth hurt

Toothache can be caused by various reasons that are very difficult to determine on your own. Most often, the tooth begins to hurt due to the fact that the nerve is damaged, or the tissue around the tooth. Much also depends on the nature of the pain - they can be constant aching,pulsating, shooting, giving in to the temple or ear, to cause a headache, aggravate during the meal, or under the influence of high or low temperature.

The most common dental diseases that cause pain:

  • caries at a certain stage of development when the dental nerve is affected;
  • enamel cracks;
  • wisdom tooth eruption;
  • periodontitis, pulpitis, gingival abscess;
  • crack crown, the destruction of the seal;
  • denudation of the dental neck.

Any of these problems requires referring to a dentist. You should not count on the temporary elimination of pain by independent forces - even if you manage to stop pain for a while, this does not mean that you managed to cure the disease. Tissues located around the teeth are not able to recover and discomfort can return at any time.

If the pain has passed and does not return for a long time - a dangerous sign, since this may indicate the transition of inflammation to the chronic form. At the same time, nerve tissues begin to die off, which often causes such serious consequences as osteomyelitis, purulent abscess, phlegmon.That is why, with the slightest unpleasant sensations in the teeth, you should not delay the visit to the doctor. Only a dentist can determine the pathology and carry out the necessary treatment.

How to quickly remove the pain in the tooth

If a tooth aches at a time when it is impossible to visit the dentist right away, it is recommended to take a number of measures that will help alleviate the condition at home:

  • Brush your teeth well. Use dental floss to clean the gaps between the teeth.
  • Rinse your mouth with warm saline with a small amount of soda.
  • Take a pain pill or use one of the recipes of traditional medicine.

If the cause of the pain is in the developing caries, you will first need to eliminate any factors that caused the pain attack. For example, pain often occurs during a meal, when pieces of food fall into a hole and cause nerve irritation. Therefore, after eating you need to thoroughly rinse your mouth and brush your teeth, or use chewing gum.

Rinsing will be more effective if you use a decoction of herbs with a pronounced antibacterial effect instead of plain water.These herbs include: calendula, calamus bark, chamomile, sage, St. John's wort. To stop the toothache, rinse your mouth with a solution of furatsilina, potassium permanganate or iodine. Furatsillina need 2 tablets per glass of water, 2-3 drops will be enough iodine, and potassium permanganate is taken in such an amount that a pale pink solution is obtained.

You can rinse your mouth and strong alcohol. Best suited ordinary vodka. You need to type it in your mouth and hold it for some time near the diseased tooth. The effect will be about the same as with a lidocaine injection - the gums will go numb and the pain will subside. Swallow vodka after this procedure is undesirable, it is better to just spit it out.

Another interesting way to relieve toothache is the method of exposure to cold on certain points of the body. An ice cube, gently massaging, is rubbed into the gap between the thumb and index finger. After a few minutes of such exposure, the pain will begin to decrease.

Folk methods of toothache

Some traditional medicines help to reduce toothache as effectively as medicines, and most of them do not have harmful side effects.

 Folk methods of toothache

  1. Sage. Sage decoction is used to quickly get rid of unpleasant pain in the teeth. To cook it, you need to take 1 tbsp. this plant, pour a glass of clean (preferably boiled) water, then boil for 10 minutes. Then remove from heat, let cool and rinse their mouth for half an hour. This decoction can and just type in the mouth and keep near the patient's tooth. Rinse must be warm, but not hot broth. If it is cold, it is changed to fresh.
  2. Corvalol. Applied as an anesthetic of local action. They are soaked with cotton wool and applied to the diseased area. In a few minutes the pain will decrease. Instead of Corvalol, valokordin or valoserdine can be used with the same success - their composition is almost exactly the same. An ordinary ice cube, if applied to a sore gum, will also have an anesthetic effect.
  3. Carnation The composition of fragrant carnation includes eugenol - a substance that has a soothing effect. Buds cloves can be applied to the gum of a sick tooth, or chew it for 5 minutes. Ten buds of this plant can be added to any mouthwash, it will also help to cope with unpleasant sensations.
  4. Clove oil. A few drops of it are applied to a sore tooth, or a cotton wool is moistened in it and applied to the gum. Clove oil helps not only to cope with diseases of the teeth, but also helps strengthen the body.
  5. Onion and garlic. In equal proportions take garlic and onions, mix and chop to a mushy state, then add a little salt. This mixture is pushed into the hole of the patient's tooth, and the top is covered with a cotton swab. Salt helps dissolve pus, and onions with garlic have an antiseptic effect. Garlic can also be used in a different way: to rub the wrist of that hand, which is located on the side opposite to the diseased tooth, with a clove.
  6. Black tea. The tea contains tannin acid, which helps reduce inflammation and reduce pain. A packet of tea should be put in hot water for a few seconds, removed from there, let it cool for a while, then apply to the aching tooth. You can not use a hot bag of tea, because the heat can only increase the pain. This applies not only to the tea bag. It is impossible to warm a bad tooth. The cold is much more effective helps to fight pain.

Medicines for tooth aches

If the above measures did not help much, you will need to use "heavy artillery" and take one or two painkillers.

Such drugs as Ketanov (contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding), Sedalgin, Nurofen, Analgin (contraindications), Baralgin are most effective in the fight against toothache. These funds not only reduce pain symptoms, but also reduce inflammatory processes.

Not less effective is an ordinary aspirin. Few people know that it directly affects the center in the brain, which is responsible for pain. Aspirin is part of such drugs as Acelysin, Citramon, Asfen. To relieve toothache, you can take a pill of any of these drugs, and it is recommended to drink them with milk to reduce the negative effect of aspirin on the gastric mucosa.

In no case should you put an aspirin pill on a diseased tooth. This can only aggravate the situation by strengthening the process of suppuration, or even shake off the burn of the mucous layer.

Another drug - Aktasulid - also very quickly relieves toothache, blocking pain impulses. This medicine is contraindicated for children, as well as for people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

All these drugs help to temporarily reduce pain symptoms. They have no therapeutic effect. Even if the pain disappeared and does not appear in the coming days, you need to visit the dentist anyway. Otherwise, the disease will become chronic, when inflammatory processes continue to develop without pronounced symptoms, and this is fraught with many dangerous consequences.

Any method of relieving toothache at home is only a temporary measure. To apply these methods is possible only when there is no possibility to immediately go to the dentist. To prevent such situations, it is recommended to regularly visit the dentist and carefully care for the oral cavity.
