How to make fertilizer from grass

At the beginning of the summer season, each gardener thinks about how to protect his plot from pests, how to feed the soil, so that it gives a good harvest, as well as how to spend a minimum of material means. The only answer is to prepare natural fertilizer from grass. With the onset of summer, this process becomes one of the main conditions for good soil productivity. So, how to make natural fertilizer saturated with nitrogen?

 How to make grass fertilizer

Cooking grass compost

  1. To prepare fertilizer, everything can be used: weeds, tops, lawn grass, and even food waste (pruning of vegetables, cabbage stalks).
  2. Fold grass and plant waste into a large vat. It is best if the container is made of plastic. Iron tanks will not fit - the reaction in it will be slow. Capacity should be volumetric, not less than 50 liters, and better than 100.
  3. If there are plants with seeds among the weeds, it is better to soak them in cold water for several days. This is done to ensure that the seeds died. Or they need to be cut in advance. Of course, most seeds die during composting, however, some crops (for example, lupine) can survive in compost slurry. After that, the weed grows safely in the garden, which was watered with prepared fertilizer. To prevent this, it is better to collect the weed for composting before it has given the seeds.
  4. After all the grass has been prepared, add some organic waste to it. Best cowshed. Cow excrement (you can, along with hay and clay) need to shift layers with weeds.
  5. When the mass will be prepared, in it, for better fermentation, you can add special sources of nitrogen purchased in the store. If they are not, do not worry - there is nitrogen in the barn, just preparing the fertilizer will take a little longer.
  6. After laying all the ingredients, fill the vat with water so that the whole mass is covered with liquid. You can also put on top of the yoke, so that the grass does not float up and wander better. To speed up the process, cover the container with a lid or plastic bag.
  7. From time to time you need to stir the "composition", so that it does not rot and does not stray into pieces.
  8. Usually compost is ready in a couple of weeks (first batch). After using the compost mass, leave a couple of buckets of the prepared liquid in the tank so that it can “ferment” the next batch of fertilizer. The following batches get ready faster, fermentation begins within 10 days, and if the summer is hot, then a week is enough.

Use of compost fertilizer

Everyone knows that plants absorb nitrogen from the soil, which is given to the solution during composting. During fermentation, a lot of nutrients and minerals, which are so necessary for the soil, are released. With the help of fertilizer from the grass, it is possible to significantly reduce the acidity of the soil, because during the reaction, alkali is released. How to fertilize garden crops with the help of the prepared means? We will understand everything in order.

 Use of compost fertilizer

  1. The prepared liquid needs to be diluted with water in the ratio 1: 2. One bucket of fertilizer mixed with two buckets of water and water the prepared composition of any crop - cucumber, pumpkin, cabbage, strawberries.Depending on the size of the bed and shrub, there should be about one bucket of diluted fertilizer per bush. A strawberry bush is just one liter.
  2. It is best to fertilize crops with nitrogen in the spring and in the first half of summer. After all, closer to the autumn, trees and shrubs are preparing for rest, and an excessive amount of nitrogen can cause them to increase growth and the appearance of young leaves. This is bad for the trees - they can not stand frost and die.
  3. Fertilize plants need in moderation. Excessive feeding has the opposite effect. That is, when there is a lot of nitrogen, the growth of the plant can occur on the tops (radishes, potatoes). And the fruits themselves will be small. Therefore, it is necessary to fertilize plants no more than once a month.
  4. Do not think that all the weeds that are not decomposed in the compost, will go to landfill. They contain a huge amount of minerals. Grass must be removed from the tub with a pitchfork and spread out on the garden beds. Waste is used for mulching. The rotted grass protects the soil from drying out, prevents weeds from growing, and also enriches the land with a useful compound.
  5. Freshly prepared fertilizer can be used against pests.Spray fertilizer from the grass on the currant leaves to protect it from aphids. You do not need to dilute the prepared product for spraying - apply in a concentrated form. Various insects do not tolerate this smell and quickly leave your possession.
  6. Cooked fertilizer is suitable for use for about a week, after this time it loses its useful properties, since all nitrogen is weathered. For the next stage of fertilizer, you need to prepare a new compost liquid.
  7. The convenience of having a compost fluid is as follows. If you have fruit trees on the plot, you probably have waste — fruits that are unfit for food that have fallen, rotted, flattened, eaten half ants, etc. If earlier you had to carry it in the trash, bury it or burn it, now all this waste can be thrown into a pile of weeds. This will give the fertilizer even more useful mass.
  8. It is better to place containers with compost fertilizer in the immediate vicinity of the beds themselves. You do not have to carry a large container of liquid to the other end of the site or to carry with full buckets across the garden.

Pond weeds

We have presented you the easiest and most classic way to make grass fertilizers. However, there are other recipes that are no less effective and useful for fruit crops. One of these recipes is useful if you live on the shore of the pond. In the pond there are weeds rich in trace elements that simply cannot be used for your own purposes.

 Pond weeds

We need to take about 50 liters of chopped pond plants - sedge, reed. You can add simple weeds to them - nettle, wormwood. In the vat also need to add a bucket of ash, a pound of chicken manure (or 5 kg of cow) and a liter of fertilizer "Baikal EM-1." Pour all the water and insist until the beginning of strong fermentation. This is a very effective and useful tool, after which the yield of your plot will increase significantly.

To saturate the poor and depleted soil with minerals and trace elements, add yeast to the compost heap. According to GOST, yeast contains potassium, magnesium, sulfur, magnesium, calcium and many other components that affect the yield of the site. One bag of yeast (15 mg) must be diluted in 10 liters of water.Weeds are poured with yeast water and further along the same lines. This is a universal feeding, which is just as effective as safe.

Growing a rich harvest is a laborious, long and patient work. However, with the right approach, it gives good dividends in the form of tasty and large fruits. Fertilize your plot to grow the sweetest vegetables, fruits and berries!
