Bonobo - description, habitat, lifestyle

Bonobo are mammals that belong to the primate order. They belong to the hominid family. These monkeys are also called pygmy chimpanzees.

 Bonobo

These animals are considered the smartest of all the primates that exist in our time. Their short-term memory is much better than human.

Habitat

These primates live in only one place on the planet. It is located in the center of the African continent in the bend of the river Zaire.

Appearance

These animals, although called dwarfs, but it does not characterize their size. They are in appearance and size similar to their relatives. An adult male can weigh 35-70 kg, but on average the body weight is about 45 kg. Females weigh an average of 35 kg. Height in females is about 1.30 m, in males it is 1.5 m.

Their head is large, eyebrows are above the eyes. The skin is black and the lips are pinkish. These monkeys have large ears, wide-set nostrils, high forehead. Long hair grows throughout the body. Their neck is thin and their paws are long.

Features of the form

Bonobos have human-like traits. They are characterized by compassion. If one of them suffers, others will support him. They can cry all together.

Another feature is a good memory. They are amenable to learning. Scientists tried to teach these animals to understand speech. The results of the experiments struck them. One of the monkeys learned not only to understand, but also to use a multitude of words that she knew how to type on the keyboard, where geometric figures were depicted. A lot of research has been conducted, as a result of which scientists were convinced that bonobos are the cleverest primates. They can memorize sounds and then execute commands on them.

Behavior

The alpha male in the bonobo group is determined during a hunt and a primitive “war” game. But the female will still be at the head of the group of animals.

These animals are very peaceful. If there are any disagreements, then they end up with mating. They live in large flocks. Each of them usually has about 100 individuals. The females, although smaller in size, still occupy the highest social status in the pack. This is due to the fact that the females in the group are more pronounced cohesion. For example, if there is a conflict between males, no one will protect them. If the male clashes with the female, then the other females of the group will protect her.

All members of the pack mostly spend time together. In the daytime, they are divided into small groups. They communicate and play. At night, the whole group comes together.

Entertainment

Representatives of this species, like all other monkeys, love the game. This is an important part of their lives. Often there are several chimps in the game. The games they have are interesting and diverse.

 Bonobo entertainment

Their favorite entertainment is to build grimaces. Very love to do this kids. They can make all kinds of faces all day, playing whole pantomimes. They can do this as a group or alone.

These chimpanzees love to have fun doing flips, circling, swaying on vines, and also jumping on their relatives.

Nutrition

Many people believe that all monkeys eat only bananas. This is due to the fact that we see it in movies or television shows. In fact, it is not. These chimpanzees are omnivores. They can eat everything they find. The basis of the diet of dwarf chimps is fruit. But they also eat various plants, root vegetables. From animal food they prefer small invertebrates. They can even eat bigger animals if they can defeat them.

Often they hunt playfully, but during such games their prey is real. They can bring a squirrel, various small rodents and even a small antelope.

One of the features that cause hostility to these primates is cannibalism. They may well eat their young.

Cannibalism

The fact that pygmy chimps eat their own kind is a sure fact. But in this case it is not unthinkable. After all, bonobos are not the only cannibals in the animal kingdom. Many animals can eat their young. This hamsters and beetles, and some species of birds and fish. This phenomenon is rather strange. It is not clear why animals eat their offspring, then how exactly the whole essence of nature is directed at its birth. It turns out that at first animals reproduce their own kind, which is a natural phenomenon, and then they are destroyed.

But this behavior quickly disappears in a given population. It is believed that cannibalism, which sometimes manifests itself in animal life, is a survival strategy. Eating children for miniature chimps is a population control method.

Breeding

In the reproduction of these primates there are no clear rules. There is no dependence either on the time of the year, or on the status of the group members, or on any other factors. Therefore, the pregnancy of the female can begin at any time. In one female, pregnancy may occur not annually, but at intervals of 3-5 years. Pregnancy lasts 220-225 days. As a rule, 1 baby is born, but occasionally there are 2 or 3 of them.

 Bonobo breeding

Bonobo sexual maturity comes at age 13. Their life expectancy is about 30 years. When kept in seine, they can live twice as long.

The newborn pygmy chimpanzee has no fur on its body. It grows after a while. They spend their childhood with family members. Only after a few months, they sometimes begin to leave, in order to walk or play.

It is noteworthy that bonobos communicate with their mother throughout their lives. They do not communicate with fathers.

Home maintenance

Some people like to plant various exotic animals at home. One of the most popular options are bonobos. But not everyone wants to take this step. Many do not know whether they can contain a monkey, and do not dare to get it, they are afraid to take risks. Some do not know how to properly care for her.

In fact, all fears and fears are unfounded. They are caused only by ignorance. But today you can easily read a lot of information about how to properly maintain this or that monkey.

The most important thing for bonobos is the attention of the owner. If he is deprived of this, he may become disheartened. In no case can this animal be left alone at home. The owners, who decided on this, found their house completely upside down, as if a hurricane had swept through it. Left alone, the primate can turn out all the door lockers, which will find in the house. And if a screwdriver falls into his hands, he will use it. He will unscrew everything that he finds in the house. He will open the water in the tap and will not close it. All curtains and chandeliers will be torn down.

But, if you constantly pay attention to this pet, he will behave normally. After all, they are by nature very peaceful. If you have enough time for this, then feel free to start such a pet. But it is important to understand that chimpanzees are more than just animals. It requires almost the same care as a child. Even if you acquire an adult, you will have to educate and train it. But this process is very interesting, because bonobos are very smart and capable. You can not fear that they will show any aggression, because chimpanzees have a peace-loving nature. They will get along well with other pets.
