First aid for poisoning

Symptoms of poisoning - intoxication of the body. The child becomes sluggish, painful. He often lies down a lot, despite his usual mobility. He refuses to eat, does not want to play, it shows that the child is sick. This may be accompanied by diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, fever. If you notice similar symptoms in your offspring, try to find out or remember what your baby was eating. Try at least to suggest what could be the cause of such a child’s condition. If the child drank something dangerous (which we will talk about later), an ambulance brigade must be called in urgently. Tell your doctor, by phone, about your child’s condition, food eaten, or poison consumed. If the doctor says to do the washing before the arrival of the specialists, do so. After all, sometimes the time provided assistance can save a person's life.

When washing is necessary

There are many cases when gastric lavage is the only surest and most effective way to cleanse the body of toxins and poisons.

  1. If the child drank vinegar, soy sauce or other food seasonings.
  2. Household chemicals are very dangerous for babies. I licked the spoon lying in the laundry detergent, drank the fabric softener, put my tongue in the bleach - all this is deadly dangerous and is a direct indication for washing the stomach.
  3. Often a child reaches for drugs and tastes them. An overdose of medications is also a reason for washing the stomach.
  4. Any poisons, poison from rats and cockroaches should be beyond the reach of the baby.
  5. If the child has eaten substandard, stale, or contaminated food. This can also include poisonous mushrooms.
  6. Flushing should be done if alcohol or drugs are in the baby’s stomach.
  7. If the child has eaten too much and feels bad, then he also needs washing.

Washing can significantly reduce the concentration of the pathogen, as well as improve the condition of the patient.

How to wash the baby

  1. Before you start washing you need to prepare a basin, oilcloth or towel, as well as a jar of washing solution. You can take any antiseptic composition, for example, a solution of potassium permanganate. To a liter of water you need to add potassium permanganate powder on the tip of the knife so that the color of the prepared solution is pink.
  2. Make, ask, persuade the kid to drink as much as possible of the prepared composition. The effect of the entire procedure depends on the amount of fluid consumed.Children under one year should drink at least 500-600 ml. A child of five should try to drink a liter and a half.
  3. The temperature of the solution should be about 36-37 degrees. It is at this temperature that the intestinal perylstatic slows down, which means that the absorption of poisons stops.
  4. After the fluid is drunk, ask the baby to open his mouth, and then with his fingers or a blunt object, press down on the base of the patient's tongue. This will cause him to vomit. Do not forget to tie the baby on the chest with an oilcloth or towel and substitute a basin for emetic masses.
  5. After the child has pulled out, repeat the procedure - water and induce vomiting. This should be done several times until the water comes out almost clean.

Of course, gastric lavage is not a pleasant procedure. However, it is necessary and very effective.

Enema for washing the intestines

If toxins and toxic substances have sunk into the intestines, an enema should be done. It is also very effective in rinsing, especially for children.

 Enema for washing the intestines

  1. The child should be put on the couch, on the left side. Pre spreading oilcloth under it.
  2. You can do the washing with an ordinary enema or Esmarch cup.
  3. For the solution is taken warm water.
  4. The tip of an Esmarch enema or mug is smeared with baby cream or petroleum jelly. You also need to lubricate the anus of the child.
  5. With a twisting movement, insert the tip into the baby’s colon by 2–3 cm. After that, press the bulb until the fluid begins to flow into the intestine. If you are using an Esmarkh mug, open the faucet to start water flowing. The tank itself must be raised to a height in order to create pressure.
  6. A child under one year can be injected with no more than 600 ml of water. Every year should add 500 ml of water. For example, a child in 4 years will need to enter no more than two liters of water. Watch the patient's condition, if it hurts, you should stop the procedure.
  7. After that, the child should try to keep the fluid in the colon as much as possible. The conclusion of the procedure is bowel emptying.

This is a very effective procedure, especially if the child refuses to drink a lot of fluids and causing vomiting becomes impossible.

Solutions for washing the stomach

In addition to the solution of potassium permanganate, you can use other cleaning compositions.

 Solutions for washing the stomach

  1. Saline solution. On a liter of water you need to add a teaspoon of salt and mix thoroughly. Salt water causes a mild stomach cramp that blocks the absorption of various poisons and toxins.
  2. Adsorbing substances. Sorbents such as activated carbon, polysorb, enterosgel can be an excellent salvation for any type of poisoning. Once in the stomach, the sorbent absorbs all the toxins, not allowing them to absorb into the walls of the stomach. And after inducing vomiting, all toxic substances along with the solution are simply brought out.
  3. Soda solution. Dissolve two teaspoons of soda in a liter of water. Soda solution is especially useful in poisoning with vinegar and other types of acids.
  4. Citric acid solution. In a liter of water should be diluted with a teaspoon of citric acid or freshly squeezed lemon juice. Such a solution is effective in poisoning with alkaline products, for example, chlorine-based bleach, ammonia.

Contraindications

If a child drank gasoline or kerosene, it is not possible to flush the stomach on your own, since oil products can burn the mucous of internal organs. In this case, you need to take the baby to the hospital and rinse his stomach with a probe.Gastric lavage is also contraindicated in acute foodborne illness, for example, in an ulcer. Pregnancy, acute pain, internal bleeding is also a contraindication for this procedure. The patient should not be washed if he is unconscious.

According to doctors, gastric lavage is an important procedure that can help a person in a difficult situation. The ability to do the baby washing yourself is priceless. Because in life a moment can happen when the child’s salvation is in your hands.
