How to make distilled water at home

Water, purified from impurities, is widely used in various spheres of life. It is required for medicinal purposes, for drinking, adding to aquariums, irons, as well as watering plants. Such liquid can be purchased, but it is easier to prepare it yourself. It does not require the use of special equipment. It is enough to get acquainted with the order of implementation of all actions.

 How to make distilled water

Distillation is a process by which the removal of minerals, chemical impurities from water. To obtain such a liquid at home can be a variety of ways. It is recommended to distill tap water by evaporation, freezing. No less effective is the process of turning clean rainwater into drinking water, which is also called the method of distillation for the lazy.

Before you begin the basic steps of transforming tap water at home, it’s worth preparing it.

Preparation highlights

Take a certain amount of water from the tap, leave for some time aside for settling. The top of the liquid container should not be covered with a lid. To prevent debris or dust from entering the water, put the pot in a special place. This may be a bath. Do not move the pan from place to place.

Simple cold water must be defended. This is necessary so that the liquid is cleared from the compound of chlorine, hydrogen sulfide. This process takes a couple of hours. All sorts of salts, impurities, gradually sink to the bottom of the tank, filled with liquid.

The whole process of settling lasts for 6 hours. At the same time, the tube is immersed in water. With its end dipped into the liquid, it should touch the bottom of the pan. Using a straw, it is necessary to decant 1/3 of the water from the bottom of the tank. So the water settles and is ready for distilling.

Method 1. The evaporation process

This method requires: a pan (made of stainless steel) with a dome-shaped lid, deep glassware, a special grill from a gas oven, a bag with ice or pure snow, tap water.

  1. The pooled water is poured half into an appropriate container, then set on fire.
  2. Take a glass deep dish. Place it in a pot of water. The glass bowl must be free to adhere to the surface of the liquid. This is a prerequisite for proper evaporation. If this does not happen, then a special grate from the gas oven is placed at the bottom of the pan. Thanks to this stand, the glass vessel will be afloat.
  3. A saucepan on top is covered with a dome-shaped lid, turning it over with the convex side inside the container.
  4. After a certain time, the water begins to boil, then evaporate.
  5. To make the process of condensation of water vapor go faster, a pre-prepared bag containing ice is placed on the lid of the container (you can use snow or containers with strongly cooled liquid).
  6. The resulting water vapor will gradually rise to a cold cap. As a result of this process, droplets of already purified liquid will appear. They will begin to fall on the convex part of the lid directly into the glass bowl.
  7. After a short period of time, the bowl will be filled with distilled liquid.

Method 2. Transformation of raindrops into distilled water

From raindrops it is quite possible to prepare distilled water for various purposes, including drinking. This method is considered the simplest, designed for lazy people. After all, rainwater itself is distilled.

This method of purification is not recommended for residents of large cities where air is polluted. It is better to do in the suburban area. It is also worth remembering that you can not collect the first drops of rain. They are dirty and therefore unsuitable for the process of purification, further use.

  1. Leave a large capacity in the rain for two days. This time is enough for the minerals to completely dissolve in water.
  2. Collected rainwater should be stored in a perfectly clean container.

Recommendation
Tap water may be unclean. Therefore, it is not used for aquariums. Apply only distilled liquid. It is mixed with certain chemical compounds to support life in the aquarium.

Method 3. Laboratory at home

There is another simple method for obtaining distilled liquid at home, which resembles the process of purification in laboratories. This requires: a couple of bottles: one - with a straight neck, and the other - with a curved, stainless steel tank, tap water.

  1. Take the bottle, sterilize them, begin the process of purification.
  2. A bottle with a twisted neck half filled with settled water.
  3. Connect both bottles with their necks, tightly wound them to each other with adhesive tape. Important! One bottle must be with a twisted neck to prevent purified water from entering another bottle.
  4. Take a capacity of 20 liters with hot boiled water. It placed a bottle of sedimented liquid. Tilt it at an angle of 30 degrees. At the same time hold an empty bottle on the outside of the pan. This angle of inclination facilitates the process of collecting evaporated purified water.
  5. On an empty bottle place an ice pack. This is necessary to create a cold barrier. It will accelerate the process of condensation of steam from a filled bottle into a cold one.
  6. Continue to engage in the purification of water until such time as the required amount of fluid.

Recommendation
Experts do not advise to use distilled water for treatment. It is unpleasant to the taste and is mainly used for technical purposes.

To use purified water for drinking, it is necessary to structure it. To do this, use the method of freezing. The result is water with beneficial properties. You can drink it for 8 hours. After this time, the liquid becomes useless again.

For treatment, it is necessary to take this water for 6 months, drinking 200 ml 30 minutes before a meal or 2-3 hours after a meal.

Method 4. The process of freezing

For this method of obtaining purified water required: glass containers or plastic bottles (in the absence of such pick metal dishes), tap water.

 Distilled water from ice

  1. Take the appropriate container, fill it with a previously prepared by settling liquid, placed in a freezer. If you choose aluminum or cast-iron dishes for freezing, you must substitute for it cardboard or plywood. This is done to ensure that the container does not freeze to the bottom of the freezer.
  2. From time to time, check the condition of the water in the freezer. It should not be completely frozen.
  3. The container is taken out of the freezer at the moment when the water is half icy.
  4. Unfrozen liquid is no longer needed because it contains salts and chemicals.
  5. The resulting ice is required to be defrosted at room temperature. The water obtained by this method will be completely purified from all sorts of impurities and chemicals.

Recommendation
You can really save electricity if you prepare distilled water in the winter. To do this, the filled container is placed on the street.

Method 5. The process of purifying water with a kettle

For this method, you need to take: a simple kettle, two pots: the first three-liter for purified water, the second six-liter for ordinary cold water with a perfectly clean bottom, settled water.

  1. Kettle filled with settled water, begin to heat.
  2. A smaller pot is placed next to the kettle. It is needed to collect the purified water.
  3. A smaller container filled with simple water is placed on a smaller container so that the outgoing steam from the spout of the kettle touches the side of the pan, cools, turns into drops, and then drains into the lower container.
  4. The liquid poured into the kettle starts to boil.
  5. Set the level of boiling so that the steam produced by the kettle, was sent only to the pan.
  6. This method of obtaining purified liquid lasts half an hour.

Recommendation
Distilled water can be stored for a long time. For this fit glass container. In plastic containers, water is quickly polluted.

Using one of the above methods, you can get distilled water at home.

Distilled water is not for drinking! It is necessary to drink pure, but not distilled water.
