 Balinese cat

History reference

The name of the breed is of English origin Balinese cat, and in addition to the main name, it is called the Balinese cat. It has international names. For example, in Australia it is called Oriental Longhair, in France - Balinais, in Germany - Balinesen, and its outdated name is Long haired Siamese.

Balinese have an aristocratic gait and bearing, slender, with a fixed look, they hide a loving and tender heart under a royal and proud appearance. They also differ in the level of intelligence, because the owners will be able to immediately appreciate their originality and curiosity.

The origin of the Balinese breed comes from Siamese cats. The exact reason for the appearance of such a breed to the light is still unknown, but there is a version that the Balinese are the result of a combination of Angora and Siamese cats, although unlike the latter, they have a long coat. Despite this, Balinese do not require special care due to the lack of undercoat, such as, for example, in Maine Coon and any other cat breeds.

Balinese tend to become attached only to their owner or to a certain family member, however, in themselves they are very friendly and easily come in contact with other pets, if any. Balinese cats are always affectionate and sociable, love to spend time in the company of people and can become the best friend of the whole family. Get along well with children, so all the concerns of adults for the well-being of their children will be in vain. They have a loud voice, but soft and musical in comparison with Siamese cats, although they have a lot of similarities with them.

The exact appearance of such a breed is still unknown, but there are two hypotheses of their occurrence: the Balinese appeared as a result of the crossing of the Angora and Siamese cats, or the natural mutation could be the cause.

It happened that kittens with a long coat appeared in the litter of Siamese cats, but the special importance was not attached to this, and kittens were considered to be a marriage, therefore information about such cases was not advertised anywhere. However, in 1940, on the initiative of Marion Dorset, this cat breed acquired its own name and was no longer considered a rejection of the Siamese breed. In 1950, she began breeding this breed, and after 10 years began to cooperate with Helen Smith, who later suggested that this breed be called Balinese.

Considering the fact that Helen was an unusual person, medium and mystic, the name of the breed was original for some reason. She called them Balinese for their graceful movements resembling dancers from the island of Bali, which, by the way, is located near Siam (now Thailand), which is a kind of reference to the history of the breed's origin.

The idea of breeding a new breed first received numerous negative reviews primarily from Siamese cat breeders. Those believed that the new breed would have a negative impact on the genetics of the Siamese and reduce demand, but by 1970, thanks to the persistence of the breeders, the Balinese were still recognized by the American cat fan associations. For 10 years before, the breed was recognized in America, and in the mid-eighties in Europe. Thus, by the number of registered breeds recognized in the USA, in 2012, the Balinez breed was ranked 28th out of 42.

  8. The tail itself is long and smooth, without any prominent defects (creases, bumps).

A plume is proof that confirms that a cat is actually a Balinese breed. It will not be difficult to comb the cat's hair, the process will turn into a pleasant game, since they have no undercoat.

Color

Color is a uniformly distributed spots on the paws, tail and eyes, on the face form a mask - color point. The rest of the body is light in color. These Balinese uniform color without light spots.

Initially, the list of color points was not very large. Only 4 colors were allowed: seal poin (sial) t, lilac point (lilac), chocolate point (chocolate), blue point (blue). But after at the beginning of May in 2008, the Balinese and Javanese cats were united, the list was supplemented with new shades, such as red point, cream point, cinnamon point and others.

Due to acromelanism, the spots on the parts of the body in cats are darker than the color of the rest of the coat. This means that, due to the genetic type of pigmentation, such colors can occur depending on the temperature in certain parts of the body and the rest. The colder this or that part compared to the other, a pronounced color appears on that area. The older the cat becomes, the darker the body color becomes.

Character

Balinese cats have a marvelous character. They are attached to the family and the owner, love to be in the company of loved ones, the best friend of the family and children, who will always be there, regardless of whether the family member works, is engaged in important activities or simply rests, and at the same time does not interfere with the process of his beloved work.

 Character cats balinez

Balinese love to chat and spend time in someone's company from a family, do not like to be alone for a long time without attention, so from time to time they can be entertained by playing. Cats can turn into a toy any item that is unnecessary or abandoned by one of the family members. This factor is another advantage in friendship with pets of this breed, as they do not require a lot of expenses.

Cats can also have a good time playing with children, not only get along well with adults. It is worth considering the well-developed intelligence of the Balinese, due to which they can easily get used to the noise and activity of children, sometimes even themselves take part in such fun. Small children can be careless and walk behind the cat, chase her, which Balinese do not like and can resist the enemy. On the other hand, a cat can become a wonderful companion to those children who are careful with it.

Allergy

Balinesians compared to other breeds have a significant difference in the production of allergens Fel d 1, which is contained in the saliva of cats and Fel d 4, contained in the urine, therefore, allergy to those who want to have such a pet occurs less frequently than in the case of other breeds. Scientific evidence for this factor does not yet exist, but research is still being conducted in the United States to establish exact criteria for the occurrence of allergic reactions of the human body, or to prove that cats really are hypoallergenic.

Maintenance and care

In cats, there is no undercoat, due to which the wool is not going to clump, and combing the soft and silky wool will be very easy. It is recommended to carry out such a procedure once or twice a week in order to remove dead hair from the surface of the pet's hair and skin.

Keeping and care of Balinese cats

It is desirable to brush your teeth daily, but this can cause some difficulties, so brushing your teeth once a week is the best option. With the help of cotton swabs, you also need to clean the Balinese ears once a week. Be sure to monitor the condition of the eyes. In case it is necessary to remove mote or other particles from the mucous membrane, it is necessary to remove them only with clean cotton swabs, without reuse. A separate clean swab should be used for each eye and ear. You should always maintain cleanliness in the house and monitor the pet's hygiene, which should not cause any difficulties, since this breed does not require any special efforts to leave.

Cats do not scratch furniture, but if you wish, you can teach your pet to a claw post yourself. It happens that in a good nursery at an early age they are taught to claw and toilet.Only after training and the beginning of maturing cats can put up for sale.

Health

The Balinese breed is considered to be one of the healthiest, although due to the fact that it differs genetically from the Siamese breed only in the length of its coat, it inherited some diseases that can manifest themselves if simple hygiene rules are not followed and there is no proper care in general. With good care, cats can live for more than 15 years.

Amyloidosis is one of the diseases that can be fatal for a pet. The essence of this disease is a violation of protein metabolism, as a result of which the protein-polysaccharide complex amyloid is formed in the tissues. This disease contributes to the formation of amyloid in the liver, its defeat and death.

The gastrointestinal tract, adrenal glands, spleen, pancreas may also suffer. On the example of Siamese people between 1 and 4 years old who suffered from liver disease, symptoms such as excessive thirst, jaundice, loss of appetite, and depression were identified. There is still no cure for such a disease, but its progression may be slowed down if symptoms are detected as early as possible.

Squint has become possible to withdraw, and what they do in many kennels, but during the life of the cat can make itself felt. The gene responsible for this disease intersects with the genes that are responsible for the point color, so it cannot be destroyed.
