Siberian Husky - description of the breed and character of the dog

The history of the emergence and development of this amazing breed of dogs is firmly connected with the open spaces, covered with snow drifts, which have no end and no edge. Where, during long winters and blizzards, people were forced to find for themselves not just an animal that could help, but also a dog that could become a true and devoted comrade. And the husky throughout the existence of the breed were and are just such pets. Unusually, such dogs, which combine the blood of the ancient dogs of the north and the blood of wolves, were tamed by the Chukchi tribes much earlier than they were domesticated by deer.

Breed development

Being in an extremely harsh climate, when the thermometer could easily fall to -60, the Chukchi were well aware that the Huskies would never let them down. And a group of dogs in the amount of 15-20 individuals could easily overcome, being in harness, incredible distances along the snowy expanses and ice. And all this is literally within a day.

The man considered these dogs as assistants not only in the hunting process or for movement, the huskies were considered to be real members of the family for a long time. If a baby was born in the family, then all Huskies, who usually lived outside the house, were invited inside. They needed to lie down around the child to warm him with the warmth of their bodies. After the baby became a little older, it was the Huskies who defended it and played with it. Very often, only these dogs warmed the whole family, especially on frosty nights. This is what led to the emergence of the term “pair of dogs - night” - it is two huskies that are enough to warm the whole body.

At the very end of the nineteenth century, it was the sled dogs that played an important role in the fate of the Chukchi tribes, defending the autonomy of this nationality from Russia in tsarist times. It may seem surprising, but it was the dogs of this breed that helped the Chukchi do a lot of damage to the invading army and gained independence.

But at the beginning of the next century, the breed almost disappeared from the face of the earth, as the Soviet authorities considered the futility of the Siberian Huskies, given their insufficient growth for the transportation of goods. Huskies lost the status of a separate breed, and the breeding of dogs was banned.

But even in such a situation, the Huskies managed to maintain their existence thanks to the interest of the Americans. Even the current name of the dog is owed to them, since the word “Husky” is an interpretation of the word “Eski”.

A certain number of individuals were taken to the territory of Alaska in the thirties of the last century, and already there dogs became widespread. The need for riding dogs then greatly increased due to the gold rush. It was too hard and long to get to the mine, and the Huskies showed all their abilities to the maximum.

And soon the Huskies began to show all their magnificent qualities in various races, where the teams participated, and one of the individuals even received the status of a national American hero.

At about the same time, the Huskies were able to save a small town called Nome from the strongest epidemic of diphtheria. The dog team, where Balto's dog was at the head, was able to overcome the snow blizzards and deliver medicine to the city. The whole world learned about the feat of dogs, and a year later, Central Park in New York was decorated with a monument in honor of the legendary deed of Balto and his team.

The breed boasts many things - an expressive intelligent look, a foxtail, a miniature and strong build and outwardly pleasant masks on the face. Huskies seem even perfect, if you add to this incredible strength, agility, endurance and speed. The dog will be a great friend for the whole family, if you allow it to regularly exercise its own strengths, engage in joint sports with it, take with you for long walks, preferably in the winter forest. Huskies may even put a sleigh in harness so that she, remembering her roots, richestly rolled her master or small child through the icy desert.

It should be mentioned that dogs participating in exhibitions often differ from sled dogs. Their muzzle is much smaller. These dogs look nicer, but they will not be able to take part in races because of the small muzzle - the air does not have time to warm up, and therefore the husky quickly begins to tire.

Many different factors have played a role in the birth of such an original, unique and multifaceted dog breed. These include the peaceful nature, hunting instincts, curiosity, thick coat, which helps the dog during the nights in the cold, as well as love and the excitement experienced during the race on the ice.

Huskies have a sporty and athletic physique, and, despite their compact build and light, as if flying, gait, are truly beautiful, demonstrating primeval relative wildness. They resemble the most domesticated wolves, but at the expense of their proud and majestic posture they look quite noble. The aristocracy is also added to them by the fact that their ears are turned upwards, and the wool is very thick, is located in two layers, and allows the representatives of this dog breed to fight not only with heat, but also with strong frosts.

The color of the eyes of Siberian Huskies can be varied: brown, bluish, amber or olive. And even often there are huskies, whose eye color is different. The standard is considered to be when grayish combines with each other, brown or black along with white. Any Siberian Husky has on the face a special and unique design that looks like a mask.

Characteristics of the nature of the Siberian Husky

Representatives of this breed need constant activity, movement and serious loads, as initially the Huskies were created for hard work. If you succeed in giving your pet a chance to take long walks, and in winter time transporting the host on skis or sleds, the husky will turn into a devoted and kind comrade.

Characteristics of the nature of the Siberian Husky

Since the Chukchi were very careful in choosing dogs for sledding, the current representatives of the breed are very gentle and kind. They can show friendliness even to strangers, therefore, despite their impressive appearance, dogs are unlikely to become excellent guards of the home. Such a dog, rather, to death will be able to lick the robber who entered the house, but no more.

Once upon a time, sled dogs were forced to fight for their own existence, showing independence in many situations, so it is unlikely that they can now be called too meek.Despite all the intelligence and intelligence, the Huskies will certainly demonstrate their autonomy by making various small pranks.

Fact! Siberian Huskies rarely give voice, but they are extremely sociable dogs, making velvet and pleasant sounds in moments of joy.

All individuals of this breed are distinguished by their love for companies and can peacefully exist along with people and other pets, but they are especially fond of the kids, and they, in turn, love these gentle dogs.

Despite the fact that these dogs with the same tenderness can relate to the whole family, it is necessary to ensure that only one person is engaged in raising a puppy. It is this person who will become his master, and the Husky himself must choose such a person. Since dogs often show their character, not every person will be able to cope with this animal. And it is necessary to start raising with puppy age.

Of course, the Huskies can exist in the conditions of a city apartment, but they must be given the opportunity to take long walks without a leash for at least one hour. And it is better if the territory is forest.Ideal for huskies to live in a house located outside the city, where the dog will have his aviary, where he will be able to play constantly at any time of the day or night.

Features of the maintenance and care of the Siberian Husky

It should be noted that the husky is difficult to keep in the apartment, as the breed is very freedom-loving, loves open space, active games. It is more convenient for him to live on a plot outside the city where there is a high fence. And do not be mistaken, watching how calmly the pet behaves in the apartment. A boring pastime with time will conquer all the damn zest for life.

Features of the maintenance and care of the Siberian Husky

To really notice, you need to see what dog the Husky turns into when he finds himself in a dog sled. He will instantly demonstrate strong character, speed and intelligence.

But to get such a pet, it is not always necessary to be a real athlete. You can just love exercise - jogging, cycling or skiing with your pet, and that will make him happy.

Among other things, Siberian Huskies are very clean and easy to maintain. They have no unpleasant smell, they can take care of themselves, as cats do, so it is not often possible to expose a dog to water procedures - once a year is enough.

Huskies rarely encounter molting, not more than a couple of times a year. In other periods, they do not feel the need for special care for the coat. It will only be necessary to regularly comb the dog and rid it of wool that has died.

These dogs are certainly quite harsh, but magnificent, and managed to earn unconditional trust, respect and true love of their owners, possessing independent character, endurance, bravery and loyalty. Therefore, if it is important for you to have a responsive and friendly companion next to you, an excellent companion for your children, then the Siberian Husky will be able to meet all the requirements.

Other breed features

Very often, representatives of this breed can be found in cinema, but most often they act as representatives of wolf breeds. Huskies can be met in the films “Tender Leopard”, “Balto”, “On the Other Side of Wolves” and so on.

The cost of representatives of the breed

The cost of a husky puppy depends on what class it has. It is accepted to subdivide all representatives of the breed into such classes as show, pet or brid.

 Dog breed Siberian Husky

Class show includes the most expensive and elite individuals, whose vocation is an indispensable championship. Such puppies are not sold, if they are less than six months, since only from this age one can be sure that the dog does not have serious defects, and can truly become the object of pride of its owner.

The breed class includes representatives that are allowed for further breeding, the goal is to increase the level of the characteristics of this dog breed. If we consider the realities of Russia, then this includes dogs whose title is not lower than the Russian Champion.

And finally, the pet-class is the husky puppies, who have various reasons that do not allow them to participate in exhibitions, therefore, they are forbidden to take part in the breeding type of breeding. Often, these puppies do not even have a pedigree.

Now the cost of acquiring a Siberian puppy in Russia has the following picture:

  1. Moscow, Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg and other major Russian cities have very high prices for Huskies. Representatives of the pet class are sold on average for 22 thousand rubles, the breed class is estimated at 35 thousand rubles, and the show class is sold for more than 52 thousand rubles.
  2. Other Russian cities, as well as some Ukrainian and Belarusian nurseries offer enough quality representatives, whose cost will be lower by 15 percent on average than in large cities of Russia.
