Story

Like most famous breeds, the birthplace of Havana Brown is Thailand. The cat left traces of existence and was recorded in the book "A Poem about Cats" and reproduced in the form of sketches on the pages in the interval between 1350-1767 years. They have a beautiful monochromatic coat color and clear green-blue eyes.Argued that the color served the appearance of the name of the breed, as the similarity with the famous cigar is obvious. Information about brown animals is found in the 1800s, but the British deserved the right to be considered the discoverer of the breed. Crossing the chocolate Siamese cats, power-point and domestic black shorthair, managed to achieve the necessary, stunning effect.

Registration of the breed was recorded in 1958, therefore, it is fair to consider England as the birthplace of Havana. During this period, some cats were exported for improvement and reproduction to America. The genetics were disturbed by diluting the English breed with others, and this affected the shade, but the United States managed to retain the original color. This led to the separation of oriental brown (different shades of brown) and havana brown.

The breed is mostly moderately active, it can catch objects like a dog and bring to the owner. He likes to take part in the life of a person, accompanies around the perimeter of the dwelling, trying to choose the highest points for this, as well as take a nap next to the owner. The animal is able to attract attention to his person.Climbs on his knees, gently touches the paws, flirts. In order to explore the object of their attention, they involve not only the olfactory organ, but also gently touch the paws.

 Havana Cat Breed Character

Havana is hospitable and not afraid of people, moreover, it constantly needs them. If a person is not able to pay due attention to the pet, then it is better to abandon the idea of having such a cat in the house. Lack of attention on the part of the owner can adversely affect the psycho-emotional state of the animal, leading to depression, spleen, diseases.

Leaving the city, you can take a cat with you. Havana is easily and with pleasure able to endure various trips. The new place does not cause stress and resistance.

Cat health and disease propensity

At the initial stages of breeding, with a poor selection of genetic material, the breed was too vulnerable and susceptible to various diseases. Scientific selection work has allowed to achieve better health thanks to an expanded gene pool. But something from distant ancestors is still preserved.

Siamese awarded Havana sensitivity to gingvitis, respiratory diseases, pathological changes in the structure of the myocardium, renal dysfunction syndrome. The average life expectancy of Havana Brown is about 15 years.

Care and content

Care and maintenance of cats Havana
Breed short-haired, therefore, does not require constant combing and additional care. Shedding proceeds normally, but does not differ in the abundance of hair loss. In order that the look was well-groomed, and wool was poured - it is enough to comb an animal once in 7 days. For these purposes, there is a special rubber comb and suede. You can also use a special glove to clean the coat.

Periodically requires inspection of the ears and trimming claws on the feet. There is no need for frequent bathing.

Interesting historical fact

Due to the careful approach to breeding the breed, the selection of cats was scrupulous. This led to the creation of an ideal, despite too limited a gene pool, in all parameters of the breed. In 1974, the crossing was stopped by the CFA, as champion status was obtained too early. Little time has passed to make full conclusions about the breed. The livestock population began to decline at a fast rate, and mating within the genus did not allow obtaining a strong and disease-resistant breed. The breeders drafted a petition to the CFA asking them to allow outcrossing in small quantities.

The basic idea was to cross Havana with chocolate Siamese, oriental cats and black domestic. CFA made a positive decision and allowed to expand the gene pool - to engage in fruitful improvement of the breed.

Offspring havana brown

The average number of kittens in one litter is equal to 5. Kittens quickly gain strength and on the third day open their eyes and get acquainted with the outside world. They are active and playful, and also too inquisitive.

Outwardly, they look disheveled and disproportionate. Toddlers have unkempt wool and big ears. Positive changes occur after 6 months. Kittens get the first signs of their breed.

What is the cost of such a kitten? They can not be cheap because of the small number of clean crosses. Worldwide recorded about 100 purebred copies. The offspring of a pet class, that is, a domestic breed that is not perfectly clean, can cost between $ 900 or about 25 thousand hryvnia. The final cost may depend on the cost of maintaining cats and kittens.

Where can I get a pet of this breed

If the clubs of the Oriental and Siamese breeds are difficult, but still can be found, then it is difficult to buy the purebred Havana Brown in the former CIS countries and even in European countries and America. The only available way is private announcements that require detailed verification of the breeder and the mandatory confirmation of the blood and health of the veterinary passport.
