When to start feeding kittens?

During the first month, kittens should be fed by their mother. Then they continue to use milk, but for the full development of this they are no longer enough. Therefore, from this age kittens should be gradually accustomed to the usual food.

 When to start feeding kittens

When kittens are one month old, you need to constantly provide them with access to water. A bowl of water should be placed away from the container with food. Dishes for animals should be made of metal or porcelain. Plastic containers should not be used. Experts recommend to put one bowl of water in each room, so that animals can always drink.

Lure

When starting a diet, it is important to remember that with this process we inculcate food habits in kittens. Feeding requires adherence to the following rules.

  1. Every day, no more than one new product can be added to the kitten’s overall diet. In this way it will be possible to understand how a kitten reacts to a particular food.If it does not suit any food, then the product is removed from the diet.
  2. At this age, kittens are contraindicated to give stuffing, because the body is not able to assimilate it.
  3. The first meat of a kitten should be beef. And only after they learn to chew it, you can add poultry meat.
  4. If you plan to teach your little pet to dry food, it is better to do it gradually. This feed is diluted in large quantities of water.
  5. Starting with complementary foods, vitamins are added to the food that the animal needs at that particular age.

Monthly Age

It is recommended to feed small kittens when they are 3 weeks old. But the cat must continue to feed them milk. Food kittens should receive every 4 hours. It should be very small portions of soft warm food.

If you continue to give dry food, the bait should occur to them. But for this purpose, a special food is selected, which is soaked and then smeared over the sky of the animal. Next, in front of the kitten put a bowl in which poured a little soaked food. When the kitten starts to eat from the pan itself, the feed begins to be diluted with less and less liquid. By the age of 2 months, they begin to give food in a dry form.

All food kitten need to soften, rub or chop. Daily in the diet should be present such products: oatmeal, cottage cheese, raw lean meat, herbs, vegetables. Each week they give egg yolk, boiled sea fish, soft cheese.

A kitten needs to be taught to chew and eat meat. A tiny piece put the baby in his mouth. This is done daily until he learns to chew himself. Further, the amount of meat can be increased, the pieces may be larger.

If you can't chew it, try giving it some baby food. To help your pet learn, mashed meat is smeared across its palate, and then put a little in the bowl. When a pet eats itself, grated meat can be gradually added to regular food.

After the kitten learns to eat, you can make one product from the list above. In addition to oatmeal, buckwheat can be included in the diet, and sometimes rice. When all the listed products will be entered in the menu, at one time it will be possible to give the animal such a set:

  • The basis should be meat, and sometimes - fish.
  • 3 times less meat is added to the bowl cottage cheese or porridge.
  • Some vegetables.

Every week yolk and some cheese are added to this menu.

At this age, you can also add offal (lungs, liver, etc.). They are necessarily boiled. It is recommended to feed the kitten as often, but in larger portions. A three-month kitten can be fed 4 times.

And at the age of 4 months, the kitten's diet should coincide with the nutrition of an adult cat, but at the same time its portion should be somewhat less. It can be fed three times a day. By this time, milk can not be given, it is replaced with cream or yogurt.

Lure kittens of different breeds

  1. Maine Coon. These kittens are larger than others. Therefore, they need large amounts of food. At the age of 2 months, he should consume 130-140 g of meat, 40 g of vegetables, 35 g of dairy products, and about 15 g of cereals. These kittens are recommended to add salt to the feed. Many disagree with this, so it’s better to refrain from this advice. Before giving a kitten vitamins or supplements, you should consult with a veterinarian. This applies to representatives of any breed.
  2. Sphinxes. All representatives that belong to this group of breeds have one feature. They often suffer from diseases of the heart and blood vessels. Therefore, you should take care of the health of a sphinx kitten from an early age. They should be given only dietary meat. It can be beef, rabbit, chicken. But pork is not suitable for them. It is not recommended to give it to all cats as a whole, but in sphinxes this meat is under a special ban. At the beginning of the lure the ideal option would be low-fat veal. It can be both raw and boiled. Kittens of this breed should be fed more often than the rest. Before the age of 2 months the sphinx kitten should eat food 6-8 times a day. And before the age of 5 months, they must eat 4 times. At the age of six months they are fed 3 times, and from 9 months - 2.
