Can I dye my hair during pregnancy

As soon as a woman learns about pregnancy, she immediately changes her usual way of life. Her maternal instinct works, which is born long before the appearance of the baby and is to protect itself and the fetus from the negative influence of the environment. At this moment, the question arises whether it is worth dyeing hair or not, because the paints contain a large amount of harmful carcinogenic substances. In a non-pregnant woman, they can also cause allergies, damage to the hair structure, and irritation of the scalp. Are these fears vain or justified?

What hazardous chemicals are present in hair dyes?

Aromatic amines, produced in the 70s-80s, led to bladder cancer. In 2001, this was confirmed by the Americans, and in 2003 by the Europeans. Of the 381 chemical components of paint, 200 were found to be toxic. For painting gray hair use 2.5-toluylenediamine and P-phenylenediamine, as well as hydroxyethyl-p-phenylenediamine, used in all Schwarzkopf paints. In Sweden, Germany and France, these aromatic amines are prohibited, in other EU countries their concentration in paints should not exceed 6%.

Ammonia is a highly toxic gas, but its composition contains no more than 3% of the total mass. It serves to create an alkaline environment and loosen the structure of the hair. Ammonia-based paints have a characteristic odor, but ammonia guarantees lasting color. Paints without ammonia can not boast of long-term and bright colors. But the structure of the hair is damaged very much, and even high-quality care does not help much. Plus, you can burn scalp, allergies and even pulmonary edema in people prone to asthma.

Polyethylene glycol and propylene glycol are not only included in paints, but also in shampoos, lacquers, hair conditioners and other products. They are considered the most allergenic and dangerous.Their function is to degrease the surface of the hair, but in some cases can cause irritation of the scalp. Noticed how dry the hair becomes after numerous stains? This is all polyethylene glycol. But there is a plus: both one and the second component do not accumulate in the body.

Ammonium persulphate is used in clarifiers for hair, as well as in light shades. It is alkali, which, when exposed to hydrogen peroxide, begins to release oxygen, an oxidizing pigment. When using it, there is an unpleasant smell of ammonia, the eyes are watery, it has a sore throat. In the worst case, asthma can occur.

Sodium lauryl sulfate contributes to the formation of foam during the washing process, and this is typical of mousse paints, for example, Schwarzkopf Perfect Mousse. The substance is irritating to the cornea of the eye, may cause tearing and redness of the eyes. If sodium lauryl sulfate is also found in other cosmetics, with which the average woman uses in the amount of 11 varieties per day, then the accumulation of carcinogenic substances in the blood and the effect on vital organs is quite possible.

Formaldehyde donors are used as preservatives. By themselves, they do not contain formaldehyde, but have its ions in their composition, therefore they are carcinogenic. They provoke allergies and asthma.

Parabens are esters, used as a preservative. They are credited with one bad property - an increase in the level of estrogen in the body. And this, in turn, leads to breast tumors. Parabens have a cumulative property. American studies have confirmed that parabens accumulate not only in the body, but also in breast milk. In the countries of the European Union, they are banned in the cosmetic industry, however, manufacturers mask it under the label E216.

P-phenylenediamine is contained in the colors of dark tones. It synthesizes dyes, in a humid environment under the influence of air contributes to a blue tint. When it comes into contact with skin, it leaves a saturated pigment that can cause skin irritation, headache and nausea. Colorist masters, using paints of dark cold colors, try to apply the paint in such a way that it does not come into contact with the scalp.Otherwise, the client for a few days on the skin will remain dark spots, and in the worst case, there will be symptoms of toxic poisoning.

The most inoffensive fragrances or fragrance, as indicated on the packaging, are designed to give the paint a pleasant smell, removing the natural chemical "fragrances." In fact, fragrances are toxic, and the richer the perfume composition, the more harmful it is for humans.

Are ammonia free hair colors safe?

Relatively recently, non-ammonia hair dyes appeared on the market, which supposedly spare the hair structure and have less pronounced carcinogenic properties. Is it really? Not a single coloring component will remain in the hair unless alkaline medium is present in the dye. Manufacturers eliminated ammonia, but replaced it with monoethanolamine.

 Ammonia free hair colors

In fact, this substance is a derivative of ammonia, and is obtained by the interaction of an aqueous ammonia solution with ethylene oxide. So, the miracle did not happen. Although, unlike ammonia itself, monoethanolamine raises the hair scales, but does not make the hair structure loose. On the one hand, this is an indisputable plus, but there are also undeniable disadvantages. The hair cuticle remains almost intact, and the coloring matter penetrates superficially, not giving the expected result. You can forget about saturated light shades. If you are a natural blonde, you can find the desired shade, but brown-haired and dark-blond young ladies should first lighten the hair with something more substantial, the same ammonia composition, for example. Monoethanolamine does not have such a pungent odor as ammonia, but it is still a chemical substance from the fourth group of four. But its colors are so small that it is not worth talking about serious consequences. If the ammonia smell acts badly on you, give up both ammonia and ammonia-free paints.

What non-ammonia paints are popular in the CIS countries

Schwarzkopf Essential color paint has a gentle effect on hair. They do not become rigid and do not fall out. The paint has a pleasant aroma. Light shades are designed for natural blondes, because they lighten no more than 2-3 tones. Poor gray hair covers, so more suitable for young people.

Matrix Color Sync contains in its composition ceramides that protect the structure of the hair. It has a wide range of natural shades, has a pleasant aroma.

So you can or can not dye the hair to pregnant women

Doctors definitely do not recommend dyeing hair in the first semester of pregnancy. This is the most difficult period when the nervous system and hormonal background of the baby is formed. Wait with cosmetic procedures until 12 weeks of pregnancy. If you do not want to walk with regrown roots, choose ammonia-free or natural paints. No need to experiment and choose rich tones. Prefer natural shades, close to the natural tone of your hair. If staining is done at home, do the procedure in a well ventilated area. Pre-apply the paint solution on a small area of the elbow and wait 10 minutes. So you check if you have an allergic reaction or not. A woman's hormones change during pregnancy, so the reaction may be unpredictable.

Prefer natural paints!
If there is no way to dye your hair, then in such an important period of life as waiting for a child, do not be stingy and choose paints with natural ingredients. They will be much more expensive mass-paint colors, but the result will be luxurious. In addition, you will be sure that the hair will not fall out, and the composition of the paint does not harm the baby.

German dye to illuminate the hair Goldwell Elumen. The technology of illumination was invented by the Japanese, and for a long time only film and pop stars used it. The mechanisms of action of the dye act according to the laws of physics: the damaged parts of the hair have one charge, and the dye - the opposite. As a result, opposites attract, and the damaged cuticle is filled. Hair becomes smooth and shiny. Hue is heterogeneous, more and less dark strands create a glare effect on the hair. It looks very impressive and unusual.

Dutch professional paint Keune incorporates natural ingredients.Does not spoil the hair, has a smooth transition from freshly painted roots to the basic shade. Hair get natural saturated color, the paint is not washed off for a long time. Does not irritate the scalp, does not cause allergies. Poor paints gray hair, more suitable for giving the natural color of brightness and brilliance.

It is better for pregnant women not to dye their hair on their own. The body's response to chemicals in the paint is unknown. The risk during this period is completely unjustified. It is better to wait for the birth of the baby, set aside 2 hours for yourself and put yourself in order. Child health is more important than mother's beauty.
